Kristy Hutchings (2023).

Kristy Hutchings is the Long Beach Press-Telegram's Senior Reporter and Editor of the Grunion Gazette, a weekly community newspaper. She covers all things Long Beach — including local government, homelessness and housing, the environment, and more.

Prior to joining the Press-Telegram, she served as the Daily Breeze's lead city hall reporter. Hutchings holds a B.A. in communication and M.S. in journalism from the University of Southern California.

Her work has been published across Southern California News Group papers, including the Los Angeles Daily News, the Orange County Register, the Long Beach Press-Telegram, and the Daily Breeze. Hutchings' freelance work has been featured in Capital & Main, Fast Company, BuzzFeed News, and NBC.

The Los Angeles Press Club named Hutchings a finalist for print Journalist of the Year in 2023 and awarded her a third place news feature writing prize. The year before, she was awarded a second place profile writing prize from the California News Publishers Association. Hutchings also contributed to BuzzFeed News' FinCen Files investigation, which was named a 2021 Pulitzer Prize finalist in international reporting.

Hutchings has also been invited on several local and international media outlets to discuss her reporting. She's appeared on BBC World News, KCRW, KPCC, Ottawa Now with Kristy Cameron, and more.
